Nu-Beginning Farm; The Store is a local grocery store, restaurant, internet cafe and coffee house supporting over 75 local vendors from across Virginia. We offer shopping opportunities of local milk, eggs, cheeses, butter, honey, maple syrup, baked goods, jams, pickles and so much more! Offering many Virginia’s Finest products our inventory is constantly growing!

Our kitchen, which is operated by a “Culinary Team” concept, offers local ingredients with an international flair which causes the menu to change with the seasons. At weekly menu meetings, meals such as Wild Rice and Mushroom Soup, our Asparagus-Gruyere-Bacon Sandwich, a different weekly Curry, Bagels with either Bacon-Egg-Cheese or Smoked Salmon (or house cured Gravlox)-Cream Cheese-Onion-Capers are developed and scheduled with each team member having a voice, hand and taste bud in the decision and preparation. All new recipes are reviewed for both taste and appearance before graduating to the guest’s plate. We are happy to announce that The Store now carries a selection of Virginia Wine, Beer and Cider to enjoy either at home or with a meal!!

Family owned and supporting local families and more!! Our seasonal produce supports not only local family farms, like Geezer Farm, Farmer Brown, Laurel Fork Sapsuckers, but local organizations such as Project Grows and the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind (VSDB) Educational Garden. Both of which support the Alleghany Mountain School Fellows.

Nu-Beginning Farm was founded in 2003 in Greenville, Virginia by John and Stella Matheny on the principles of “sell the best, eat the rest.” Nu-Beginning has grown into a teaching homestead, offering homesteading classes and internships to anyone wanting to learn to be more self sustainable.
