Since 1988, under the name Murder is a Game, Kathy Johnson has been writing, producing and performing original mystery scripts throughout Michigan, Ohio and Virginia. Known by many as the “murder lady” or “inspector Kathy,” Johnson produces custom mystery dinners and weekends for businesses, individuals, organizations, nonprofits and Chambers of Commerce.

Ideal as for Christmas parties, conventions, retreats, and team building exercises, an original customized script is written for each event to ensure that no one will be disappointed by “knowing” the answer in advance and to create a one-of-a-kind experience.

Additionally, Johnson has worked with schools, churches and camp ground associations offering information on how they can write and produce their own events. (It’s impossible for me to go everywhere and do them all,” she says, “and sometimes groups just need a little information to pull one together. I can do a lot of the work for them, for much less cost than my traveling to their state and doing it all. I’ve also worked with students and churches helping them to write and perform their own events as fundraisers or team-building experiences.”)

Events can last a few hours, including dinner or heavy hors d’oeuvres - with or without wine - or can be a mystery weekend (typically starting Friday evening and ending on Sunday morning). Locations can vary from a school cafeteria or church to a hotel, winery, conference center or lodge.
