Inspired by a full moon rising over the coastal wilderness of Virginia’s Barrier Islands, Moonrise Jewelry Founder & Designer Meredith Restein envisioned a way to turn her jewelry-making hobby into a sustainable enterprise that would create new opportunities for women in her rural Eastern Shore community and beyond. A self-taught designer, Meredith has grown her company from the ground up since 2002– continually refining her style while aspiring to make a positive impact through her business.

Moonrise Jewelry’s signature style has evolved into a fun, exotic brand of wearable art inspired by Meredith’s love of the world’s most beautiful coasts, including the one she calls home. Moonrise Jewelry is known for using innovative, eco-friendly materials like “Reel” Fish Leather made from skins discarded by the canning industry and Real Orchid Blossoms preserved in resin. Each piece is handcrafted locally in Moonrise Jewelry’s Studio and retail Showroom, located at 245 Mason Avenue in Cape Charles. It’s also available online from, and at boutiques, galleries, resorts, and jewelry stores around the U.S. and the Caribbean.

Moonrise Jewelry designs have been featured in Meryl Streep’s Green Guide, NBC’s Today Show, Woman’s World, Lucky, Virginia Living, and other national media. Spanx ® Founder Sara Blakely, (the youngest self-made woman on Forbes billionaires list and one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world), awarded Meredith a Leg Up™ endorsement in 2012 as part of her mission to empower women entrepreneurs. “I’m proud to support Meredith who has managed to successfully fuse fun, exotic design with an admirable social enterprise. I love feminine, funky statement jewelry and plan to pair the Real Orchid Necklace and the Fish Leather Cuff all summer long!” said Blakely, admiring her favorite Moonrise Jewelry pieces.
