Craig was born July 13, 1946 in Paterson, NJ. As a young child he showed an interest in drawing and painting which his parents encouraged. As a teenager Craig began taking art lessons privately, and after graduating high school continued his studies at Virginia Art Institute in Charlottesville, under the instruction of Morton Trailor. It was under his instruction that the lights of art came on for Craig.

Working in a style of “rustic realism” Craig doesn’t have to go far to find subject matter. Wild life, and still life have always been a part of Craig’s work, but living in a historic district made doors, windows and chimneys have a special attraction. The texture of bricks and weathered wood are fun to paint, and the shimmer of sunlight off a glass window pane can really make a painting “pop”.

Craig got serious with his work in 1978 and showed for several years but career and family came first. Craig retired in the summer of 2013 after 38 years in the trucking industry and began painting again seriously. His art table is setup in Innkeepers Xtras next door to the 1792 home he and his wife Shirley restored. Innkeepers is an antique shop and gallery, they work with a friend , Michael Organ, and that is where Craig creates his paintings. Having looked forward to painting for so long, it’s now time to get serious with his work again, and that’s just what he is doing.

Craig is in the shop most weekday afternoons except Wednesday and other times by chance or appointment.
